 Eighty-Fourth Anniversary of Japan’s Attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii USA 12-7-25, History.com – Cause of Japan’s attack on USA? Apparently, they believed it was the only way to solve its economic and demographic problems. They wanted to expand into its neighbor’s territory taking over its import market. To this end, in 1937 Japan declared war on China resulting in the Nanking MassacrE [here] and other atrocities. American officials responded to this aggression with a battery of economic sanctions and trade embargoes reasoning that without access to money and goods like oil, Japan would have to rein in its expansionism. Instead, the sanctions made the Japanese more determined – resulting in failed negotiations between Tokyo and Washington, D.C.  The Japanese plan was simple: Destroy the USA Pacific Fleet preventing the Americans to fight back. The attack killed 2,403 U.S. personnel, including sailors, soldiers and civilians. Additionally, 1,178 people were wounded. Also, 129 Japanese soldiers were killed on 12-7-1941. After the attack, and for the first time during years of discussion and debate, the American people were united in their determination to go to war entering ‘World War 2.” On December 8, 1941 the USA Congress approved Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s declaration of war on Japan.  Ultimately during the entire war over 2.3 million Japanese soldiers and military were killed. USA lost approximately 408,000 soldiers [1].
Currently, half of the dead from the Pearl Harbor attack remain on the sunken USS Arizona battleship currently serving as a memorial to all Americans who died that day.
