2-13-18, Free Beacon -- A New York federal judge recently awarded graffiti artists $6.7 million in damages after a developer whitewashed their artwork, which was spray painted on the walls of several of Jerry Wolkoff's blighted warehouse buildings.
U.S. District Judge Frederic Block in Brooklyn said that 45 of the 49 paintings were recognized works of art and the owner of the buildings "wrongfully and willfully destroyed."
The case arose after Wolfkoff in 2013 chose to paint over the graffiti as he was redeveloping the site to make room for luxury high-rise residences. The buildings were torn down a year later. Apparently Jerry allowed the artists to use the buildings as canvases for their work, prior to deciding to redevelop the area. BUT he told the 'artists' in advance that the buildings were not permanent as he had plans to redevelop.
Block wrote that had Wolkoff waited for his permits to be officially authorized by the city, as they were 10 months after the graffiti was painted over, the artists would have had no legal recourse. "If not for Wolkoff's insolence, these damages would not have been assessed. If he did not destroy 5 Pointz until he received his permits and demolished it 10 months later, the Court would not have found that he had acted willfully."
Twenty-one artists sued Wolkoff under the Visual Rights Act, a federal law that protects artists' rights even if another individual owns the physical artwork - awarded $6.7 million in damages. More here

The male shooter was identified as Nicolas Cruz. Broward County Sheriff, Scott Israel said the shooter was a former expelled student. He said the shooter was outside and inside the school at points during the attack. He has been taken into custody "without incident." Israel said police were waiting for the SWAT team to give them the all-clear so that they could go inside the school. A teacher at the school told the Miami Herald that Cruz had been identified as a potential threat to fellow students in the past. Apparently the school administration had sent out an email warning teachers that the student had made threats against other in the past and that he should not be allowed on the campus with a backpack. Another student interviewed on the scene by Channel 7 said the student had guns at home. There were problems with him last year threatening students.

It is obvious that Paul was not praying for his journey to prosper financially, for the next verse indicates his long desire had been to “impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established” (Romans 1:11).
However, the word has come to include any kind of prospering, as in 1 Corinthians 16:2, when Paul urged Christians to provide financial help for other Christians in need. “Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him,” he said.
The term can also refer to physical and spiritual health. Its two other occurrences are in 3 John 1:2: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” Unfortunately, certain teachers of these latter days have taken the biblical teaching of spiritual prosperity to mean financial prosperity, which they teach is the right of every Christian. But this “prosperity gospel” is so clearly unscriptural that it is merely a testimony to the cupidity of the Christians who believe it. “They that [desire to] be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts,” warned Paul (1 Timothy 6:9). And to whatever extent God does prosper us financially, it is strictly for the purpose of helping others, not to indulge ourselves. “Charge them that are rich in this world, that . . . they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute” (1 Timothy 6:17-18). Loving, obeying and serving God is the most important thing. Prosperity preachers are liars. Jesus said we'd be persecuted and we are. Our joy comes from serving the Lord and knowing that in eternity we will be with the Lord not Satan. This earthly life is so short ... happiness on the earth is so unimportant. Good works however do not earn us forgiveness and eternal life with God. Only repentance and living for Jesus does that! The good works comes after. When Trouble Knocks
Or Doors Are Slammed in Your Face
2-11-18, * -- Trouble comes in all forms. Sometimes it seems like an onslaught of bad situations and other times it is little things that happen every now and then. Troubles are what we call them, but God calls them trials and testings. James 1:2-4
However, the good news is God is not sitting in the heavens saying, “How can I send chaos to test My children today?” He is our Deliverer and our Rescuer. How do we all survive when troubles come our way? The answer is always in prayer and reading God’s Word.
John 16:33 Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Often when troubles hit we can mentally assess and rationalize them, however we – in our own human frailties – cannot cope. We are not to cope with our troubles; we are to give them to God. 1 Peter 5:6-7 If you cope, you hang on to it. If you give it to God, you can let it go. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
The Lord will comfort us and we will have peace, and that is what we need. Next time trouble knocks at your door, send it to Jesus, He will send you wisdom and peace.
