Israel’s success offends the Left not only because she is a national state, but because she demonstrates the success of Western society and the ONLY non-Muslim, Democratic nation in the Middle East. If all cultures were of equal worth, why then does this small state that could fit inside Vermont produce so much enterprise and innovation and success amid a sea of Middle Eastern failure and autocracy?

The outrageous restrictions covered the “snail darter” that was claimed to be a freshwater fish in Tennessee rivers. The designation of its endangerment halted construction of the “Tellico Dam.” Opponents of the dam insisted that the two-inch non-edible fish was a distinct species and successfully stopped construction. In 1954, while both nations were part of the united USSR, Gen Sec Khrushchev gifted the territory to Ukraine. In 1999 when the Soviet Union crumbled - becoming RUSSIAN FEDERATION - Crimea officially became Ukrainian.

The RF held referenda elections when the Crimeans voted in large numbers to join the RF. So Russia amended its constitution to show Crimea had been restored to the RF. However, NATO & Ukraine refuse to recognize the referendum or Russia’s annexation as either legal or permanent.
Today, Ukraine is losing the war & President Trump’s cease-fire deal, dangled in front of them. It could’ve immediately stopped the bleeding; but because the powerful fantasy of recovering Crimea, Zelensky shot down even talking about it.

In 2014 ethnic Russians living in Crimea experienced violent discrimination by Ukrainians [supported by US Pres Obama [here]. In March the RF [Russian Federation] invaded the peninsula, claiming occupation was necessary to protect its citizens who lived there.

It’s beginning to look like the Ukrainians — Zelensky & the oligarchs who are really calling the shots — need to make some difficult decisions. However, there’s currently so much war money sloshing around Europe that all the incentives are completely topsy-turvy. If he’s not careful the pugnacious comedian Zelensky is about to be left holding the bag.

There is no realistic pathway for Ukraine to recover Crimea. However, they planned to do it in Ukraine’s 2023 Glorious Spring Offensive —at its peak military capability— meant to push through the Russian lines & establish a beachhead in Crimea.
