​In the rain on Sunday, 9-23-18 American & French officials, descendants of soldiers and visitors attended a ceremony at the 130 acre Meuse-Argonne cemetery, surrounded by green fields and forests in Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, a village in northeastern France. Honoring Americans who gave their lives fighting against  it is the largest American cemetery in Europe. The Meuse-Argonne offensive, seven week battle of 1918 was America's deadliest battle, with 26,000 U.S. soldiers killed. 

During seven weeks of combat, 1.2 million American troops led by Gen. John J. Pershing fought to advance on the entrenched positions held by about 450,000 Germans in the Verdun region. The offensive that started on September 26, 1918, was one of several simultaneous Allied attacks that brought the war which started in 1914 to an end, leading the Germans to retreat and sign the armistice on November 11, 1918. Pershing said 'the success stands out as one of the very great achievements in the history of American arms.' At the cemetery, eight wide grave sections with long regular rows of crosses stretch between the trees on the gentle slopes of a hill. On top is a chapel where the names of 954 missing American soldiers, whose bodies were never found or identified, are engraved.

​William M. Matz, secretary of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) that maintains the site, believes that this piece of history must be retold to younger generations; he said:

'I think it's important for their teachers, their parents to bring them to these beautiful sites, let them walk through the rows of crosses, let them look at the walls of remembrance, let them go into the cemetery chapels and let them learn the history of what these men did 100 years ago. It's because of their brave deeds, their acts of valor and courage and commitment ... that these young folks are able to live and enjoy the life that they're living." ​More here

9-24-18, * -- Each of us will give an account of himself or herself to God. It is clear Christians, not unbelievers appear before the judgment seat of Christ, believers giving an account of their lives to Christ. Second Corinthians 5:10 tells us, “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad."
 
The judgment seat of Christ does not determine salvation; that was determined by Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf (1 John 2:2); our repentance and faith in Him (John 3:16). All of our sins are forgiven and we will never be condemned for them (Romans 8:1). We should not look at the judgment seat of Christ as God judging our sins, but rather as God rewarding us for our lives. Yes, as the Bible says, we will have to give an account of ourselves. We believers are rewarded based on how faithfully they served Christ (1 Corinthians 9:4-27; 2 Timothy 2:5).

Some of the things we might be judged on are how well we obeyed the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), how victorious we were over sin (Romans 6:1-4), and how well we controlled our tongues (James 3:1-9).

James 1:12 gives a good summary of how we should think about the judgment seat of Christ: “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.”

9-24-18, Israel Natl News – On Sept 18, 2018 Russian IL-20 reconnaissance aircraft was downed after an Israeli airstrike on a military research facility in northern Syria. An IDF delegation was dispatched to Moscow last week to share information collected by Israel as part of its investigation into the incident.

The Russian government has refused to accept the validity of Israel’s investigation into the downing of the plane, holding Israel responsible for the plane’s destruction and the loss of all fifteen Russian crew members.
 
During a phone conversation on Sept 24, 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he did not accept Israel’s explanation that Israel Air Force fighter jets operating in Syria did not use a Russian Ilyushin IL-20 spy plane as radar cover. He said the IDF was negligent in its actions during the Syria airstrike and failure to give proper warning to Russia regarding the impending strike.

Netanyahu told Putin he had full faith in the IDF report, which found the Syrian military responsible for the downing of the plane and was extremely regretful for the loss of life. He denied Putin's claims saying Israel's jets were already out of the combat zone and in Israeli airspace when the IL-20 was downed, and that the IL-20 had been far from the area of the airstrikes during the Israeli operation. On Monday night, 9-17-18, Russian Air Force Ilyushin IL-20 "Coot-A" electronic intelligence and radar reconnaissance aircraft monitoring the Idlib province of Syria was mistakenly shot down by Syrian air defense forces after an Israeli air strike on facilities in Latakia, Syria. It went down in the Mediterranean, about 17 miles off the Syrian coast near Latakia, with a loss of all 15 Russian crew members.

At first Russian President Vladimir Putin said the downing was the result of a "chain of tragic accidental circumstances."

However, the Russian Defense Ministry has laid the blame for the downing on the Israelis, saying: "The Israeli pilots used the Russian plane as cover and set it up to be targeted by the Syrian air defense forces. As a consequence, the Il-20, which has a radar cross-section much larger than the F-16, was shot down by a Syrian S-200 system missile."  More here and here

9-23-18, The Feast of Tabernacles, also known as Sukkot, is the seventh and last feast that the Lord commanded Israel to observe and one of the three feasts that Jews were to observe each year by going to “appear before the Lord your God in the place which He shall choose.” Deuteronomy 16:16
 
The importance of the Feast of Tabernacles can be seen in how many places it's mentioned in Scripture to name a few: Exodus 23:16; Deuteronomy 16:13; 1 Kings 8:2; Nehemiah 8:17-18
 
The Feast of Tabernacles is a many day celebration beginning on the 15th of the Hebrew month Tishri – on the 2018 Gregorian calendar it occurs on September 24 – 30; at the time the fall harvest had just been completed. It’s a time of joyous celebration as the Israelites celebrate God’s continued provision for them, the protection during the 40 years in the wilderness and picturing the thousand year reign of the Messiah’s [second coming].
 
The Feast of Tabernacles, like all the feasts, was instituted by God as a way of reminding Israelites in every generation of His deliverance and are also significant in that they foreshadow the work and actions of the second coming of the Messiah. Much of the Lord Jesus’ public ministry took place in conjunction with God’s Holy Feasts.
 
The Feast of Tabernacles begins and ends with a special Sabbath day of rest. During the days of the feast all native Israelites were “to dwell in booths” to remind them that God delivered them out of the “land of Egypt” and to look forward to the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, who would deliver His people from the bondage of sin. The same holds true for Christians today. God protects us and provides for us as we go through life in the wilderness of this world.

2. Iran: Ended Iran nuclear deal and immediately began the process of re-imposing sanctions on Iran. The Dept of the Treasury issued a range of sanctions targeting Iranian activities and entities, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force.
3. Health Insurance: eliminated the penalty for Obamacare’s burdensome individual mandate and is seeking to provide more affordable health coverage and broader access to affordable alternatives to Obamacare plans.
4. Veterans: signed the Dept of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017, improving processes for addressing misconduct. signed the VA Choice and Quality Employment Act into law, now agents in the VA can be fired. $2.1 billion in additional funds for the Veterans Choice Program has been authorized.
5. Jobs: appx 3 million jobs have been created: 304,000 manufacturing jobs have been created since he took office, and manufacturing employment stands at its highest level. 337,000 construction jobs have been created since  took office, and construction employment stands at its highest level since June 2008. Job training and workforce development is encouraged to empower workers to seize more opportunities, signing an Executive Order to expand apprenticeship opportunities and trade schools. American agriculture has gained access to new markets. Unemployment rate has dropped to 3.8% the lowest rate since April 2000 also welfare rolls decreased as well as food stamp needs.
6. Taxes: $3.2 trillion in gross tax cuts signed into law with the child tax credit doubled. The top corporate tax rate was lowered from 35 percent to 21 percent.
7. rolled back unnecessary job-killing regulations; at a two-to-one ratio, issuing 22 deregulatory actions for every new regulatory actions and regulations harming farmers and energy producers, such as the Waters of the United States Rule and the Clean Power Plan.

16. Syria: strikes against Syria in response to use of chemical weapons in April 2017 and April 2018.
17. Border Security: worked to secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws and protect the safety and security of Americans. Despite limited resources and obstruction from Congress, worked to take control of our border and enforce our immigration laws beginning the WALL. Deployed the Natl Guard to our borders. Arrests of illegal migrants: 42 percent increase from the same time frame in FY 2016. Of the 110,568 arrests 92% had criminal convictions, pending criminal charges, were an ICE fugitive, or had a reinstated final order of removal. In 2017, the Dept of Justice worked with partners in Central America to file criminal charges against more than 4,000 members of brutal migrant gang MS-13.
18. Drugs: cracked down on the import and distribution of illegal drugs. As of April 2018, U.S. Border Patrol has seized 284 pounds of fentanyl in FY 2018, already surpassing the total of 181 pounds seized in FY 2017 in a nationwide effort to fight the opioid crisis.  The omnibus spending bill provides appx $4 billion to address the opioid epidemic.
19. Judges: Confirmation of more circuit court judges of any President in their first year, and secured Justice Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation to the United States Supreme Court.
20. Religious Liberty: signed an Executive Order to protect the free speech and religious liberties of groups such as the Little Sisters of the Poor. The Dept of Justice issued guidance to all executive agencies on protecting religious liberty in federal programs ensuring that the religious liberties and conscience of Americans are protected and respected by the Federal government. Having a master and teacher means that there is someone who knows me better than I know myself, who is closer than a friend, and who understands the remotest depths of my heart and is able to satisfy them fully. It means having someone who has made me secure in the knowledge that he has met and solved all the doubts, uncertainties, and problems in my mind. Our Lord never takes measures to make me do what He wants. Sometimes I wish God would master and control me to make me do what He wants, but He will not. Galatians 5:13 And at other times I wish He would leave me alone, and He does not.

“You call Me Teacher and Lord…”— but is He? Teacher, Master, and Lord have little place in our vocabulary. We prefer the words Savior, Sanctifier, and Healer. The only word that truly describes the experience of being mastered is love, and we know little about love as God reveals it in His Word. The way we use the word obey is proof of this. Luke 11:37-54; John 14:15

​In the Bible, obedience is based on a relationship between equals; for example, that of a son with his father. Our Lord was not simply God’s servant— He was His Son. “…though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience…” (Hebrews 5:8). If we are consciously aware that we are being mastered, that idea itself is proof that we have no master. If that is our attitude toward Jesus, we are far away from having the relationship He wants with us.

The Lord Jesus Christ wants us in a relationship where He is so easily our Master and Teacher that we have no conscious awareness of it— a relationship where all we know  ... we are His to obey. John 15:9-10

9-22-18, Aljazeera reports four gunmen dressed in fatigues opened fire at a military parade in southwestern Iran, killing at least 29 people including women and children.  The brazen attack on Saturday in the city of Ahvaz came as the country marked the anniversary of the start of its 1980-1988 war with Saddam Hussein's Iraq. [..snip] 

Mostafa Koshcheshm, a Tehran-based political commentator and journalist, told Al Jazeera that Revolutionary Guards officials were blaming the Ahwazi separatist movement, which has been "nurtured, supported, and trained by Saudi Arabia." State media described the assailants as "takifiri gunmen" - a term previously used to describe the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.

However, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the attack was linked to the United States' "allies in the region" he said: "This crime is a continuation of the plots of the regional states that are puppets of the United States and their goal is to create insecurity in our dear country." He did not name the states, but US allies in the region include Iran's arch-foe Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The Apostle Paul made it clear that the 'bride' would be without defilement. (Ephesians 5: 25-27) The Psalmist David spoke of the “Royal Wedding;” he spoke of King/Messiah declaring Him of glorious and lofty stature (Psalm 45:1-6). David clearly shows the distinction of the Bride at the wedding (Psalm 45:9-15). The prophet Isaiah saw her rising from the dust of death to enter her chamber of nuptial glory (Isaiah 26:19-21). The prophet Malachi said:

“And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up My jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.” (Malachi 3:17)
 
“The Marriage of the Lamb is come and His wife hath made herself ready.” (Luke 21:34-36)

The Brideship of Christ must be seen as a coveted promise for those willing to forsake all.  We have a responsibility. The “wife” has made “herself” ready by the provision and redemption of the Redeemer Jesus Himself.

9-14-18, In the latest example of Google driving away valued workers, senior research scientist Jack Poulson has quit his job in protest of the company’s plans to launch a censored version of the Google search engine in China. Recently it was reported that Google was secretly working on a Chinese search app code-named Dragonfly for devices running Android. It removes any content that the Chinese government doesn’t want its people to see, such as that pertaining to free speech, human rights, democracy and political dissidents. Some have been deemed “sensitive” and are entirely blacklisted; therefore no results whatsoever will turn up if people type in certain terms or phrases.

As part of the company’s research and machine intelligence department, Poulson was tasked with improving their search systems’ accuracy. He raised his concerns with his managers but ultimately decided that he couldn’t work for them any more in good conscience. He resigned at the end of last month, and he told The Intercept that at least four others have done the same. He said that the plan was a violation of Google’s principles stating they will not design technologies “whose purpose contravenes widely accepted principles of international law and human rights.” In his resignation letter, Poulson said: "I view our intent to capitulate to censorship and surveillance demands in exchange for access to the Chinese market as a forfeiture of our values and governmental negotiating position across the globe. There is an all-too-real possibility that other nations will attempt to leverage our actions in China in order to demand our compliance with their security demands.”

More than 1400 Employees Object
When the news of Dragonfly made its way throughout Google, more than 1,400 employees signing a letter demanding the appointment of an ombudsman to assess the censorship plan’s “urgent moral and ethical issues.” They say they have a right to know what they’re working on. In other words, if Google is going to be carrying out unethical acts, they want no part of it.

Google’s response to the Dragonfly letter? They cut off employees’ access to documents about the Chinese search engine and tightened rules so that employees working remotely can no longer livestream meetings on personal computers after a leak last month. As this behavior continues and employees grow increasingly wary of where the line will be drawn, there could well end up being a mass exodus. Sources for this article include: TheIntercept.com More here

9-19-18, * -- The Lord Jesus’ disciples asked Him what would be prophetic signs of the end times, the end of this age and His return? (Matthew 24:3) The Old Testament prophets wrote about future seasons and events, but the topics were often interwoven and the timing of the events not easily discernible.
 
Jesus explained that there would be religious deception, social and political upheaval, natural calamities, disloyalty, religious and ethnic persecution prior to His return. Hatred and betrayal will be common, as lawlessness will abound and "the love of many will grow cold." He described it as "the beginning of sorrows" (Mark 13:8).
 
Jesus taught that here will be amazing signs happening with the sun, the moon and the stars. On earth, major earthquakes and roaring oceans will bring panic and great natural disasters.

"Then men "will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory." Luke 21:25-28
 
Christ's future coming is not only a prophetic event just to be anticipated; it is a promise from our Lord's own lips. Jesus explained to His disciples that He would leave to "prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, you may be also" (John 14:1-3). [Angels proclaimed it in Acts 1:10-11 also the Apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.]

The Lord Jesus' return is our great blessed hope (Titus 2:13).

In Socialist Venezuela, as the power grid failed, the pumps shut down and so did the flow of water. With temperatures the entire year over 86 degrees Fahrenheit we need a shower! As the water shut off we had to haul and purify our own water.

Also suffering from a lack of food requires a lifestyle change; going back to the country to produce our own food. However, predator class won´t allow this. Hungry people will band together and loot, steal and destroy whatever cannot be taken or eaten. [..snip]

President Trump clearly nudging to Opec members, such as Saudi Arabia, to agree a production boost when they meet this weekend. Brent Crude is currently trading near to $80 per barrel, close to its highest level since November 2014.

​Oil prices have been climbing sharply since Opec agreed a historic deal to curb production in late 2016. That output freeze has helped to remove over-capacity from the market, meaning producers benefit from higher prices. More here from Guardian

9-19-18, Michigan — Mother, Jodie May of Grandville, Michigan, was arrested and forced to appear before a district judge. She was charged with stealing her 15 year old daughter's cell phone. Jodie was punishing her daughter for misbehaving in school and as punishment confiscated her cell phone. She said, "I was just being a mom, a concerned parent and disciplining my daughter." 

However, her ex-husband, called the police stating he owned the phone and claimed his ex-wife's punishment was a crime alleging his ex-wife stole the phone. That led to Jodie's arrest. [Later revealed Dad did not own the phone; the daughter did.]

She was immediately released on a $200 bond and faced a misdemeanor charge of larceny under $200, punishable by up to 93 days in jail. However, after prosecutors learned that the minor child owned the phone; charges were dropped. More here

8-16-16, Four Milwaukee police officers were injured Sunday night and 14 arrests were made. Pres Candidate Hillary Clinton said: "Look at what's happening in Milwaukee right now. We've got urgent work to do to rebuild trust between police and communities and get back to the fundamental principle: Everyone should have respect for the law and be respected by the law." 

1 Peter 1:6

8-17-18, John D. Morris, PhD -- Our lives today are continually badgered by various trials, or “manifold temptations.” The trials are to bring about a pure and effective faith, pleasing to God. But the apostle Peter is not referring to trials or their results when he declares: “Wherein ye greatly rejoice.” On the contrary, he is summing up a list of blessings given in the preceding three verses. As we delineate them, let us rejoice as well.

“His abundant mercy” (1 Peter 1:3). Mercy implies a compassionate act on one who is in desperate need. In context, God’s mercy was granted to us in salvation when there was nothing we could do to save ourselves.

“Begotten us again”. We have been born again! We are now His children, born into His family. We now have spiritual life—eternal life.

“A lively hope”—not just a living hope—it is much more than that. We have a hope that is actively, vibrantly alive. This “lively” state was accomplished in and through the bodily “resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Our eventual, eternal resurrection is thus assured.

“An inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4). This inheritance could not be more secure or more glorious.

“Kept by the power of God” (1 Peter 1:5). The protection of God extends far beyond the inheritance; it encompasses the individual heir also—the one who has tasted of His mercy “through faith unto salvation.”

“To be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5). Though the saved are now freed from the penalty and power of sin, there will be a final deliverance from the presence of sin.

Indeed, there is much about which to “greatly rejoice.” Source
