2-22-23, JNS.org -- The Jewish state of Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US lawmakers that despite any disagreements between Jerusalem and Washington, such meetings were an expression of the strength of ongoing bipartisan ties with Israel. Among the topics discussed were the USA brokered Abraham Accords and their possible expansion, as well as confronting Iran and its proxies that are trying to destroy the peace.

U.S. Sens Jim Risch (R-Idaho) said:
​“When UNRWA was created, its specific purpose was to provide relief for refugees of the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict. More than 70 years later, the organization has employed individuals affiliated with Hamas [Islamic terror group in Gaza Israel], a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization, and its schools have been used to promote antisemitism and store Hamas weapons. It is unacceptable that U.S. taxpayer dollars are being used to fund this agency.”

On Sunday June 27, 1976, Air France Flight 139 took off from Tel Aviv and made a scheduled layover in Athens, Greece, before it was to continue to Paris, France. Wilfried Böse and Brigitte Kuhlmann of the German Baader-Meinhof terror group and two Palestinians from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine boarded with other new passengers in Greece and hijacked the plane and forced it to land in Benghazi, Libya where it was refueled. While there the hijackers released British-born Israeli citizen Patricia Martell, who cut herself and bleeding profusely, pretended to have a miscarriage. [..] Operation Thunderbolt began at 13:20 on July 3,1976 when the aircraft took off and headed south to make the 2,500 mile trip to Entebbe. Only then was the plan revealed to the Israeli Cabinet, which decided to let the operation continue. The lead Hercules carried the Sayeret Matkal rescue force, led by Lt. Col. Yonatan Netanyahu [Benjamin's younger brother]. [..]
