George Floyd has become a hero and in June 2021 a statue has been erected in Newark, New Jersey. He gained instant notoriety after he was apparently killed in May, 2020 by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minn after he was apprehended for passing counterfeit money in a local retail store. Floyd’s death sparked riots, looting, marches, protests and at times disturbances nationwide. More here
