Headlines, 7-28-25: Honoring USA Hero; Health Tests; Democrat Warnings!

On July 28, 2025 we honor the anniversary of the death of American Army hero Martin Treptow who died on the battlefield of World War 1 in 1918. His body was found with his diary where he had written:

"MY PLEDGE - America must win this war. Therefore, I will work, I will save, I will sacrifice, I will endure. I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost as if the issue of this whole struggle depended on me alone." 

Martin Treptow is not a name found in most history books. However, his story reminds us that America’s true makeup is found in the everyday acts of goodness and selflessness of anonymous Americans.

​Did Austrian Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand’s assassination cause World War I? 

The causes of World War I have been debated —but the assassination of Ferdinand was an early catalyst. Officially, Germany shoulders much of the blame for the conflict, which caused four years of unprecedented slaughter.
With the British Empire extending to five continents and France controlling many African colonies, Germany wanted a larger slice of the territorial pie. As countries vied for position, tensions rose, and they formed alliances to position themselves for European dominance. This widespread nationalism is thought to be a general cause of World War I.

7-28-25, Ariel Green*, M.D., assistant professor of medicine in the division of geriatric medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine reports that if you’re in your 50s or 60s, you might decide that the gamble is worth having the test, but as you get into your 70s and 80s, the math might simply not add up. Most cancer screening tests — mammograms, colonoscopies, PSA tests—look for precancerous lesions or early cancers that aren’t going to cause any problems for the person for seven to ten years. As you get older, it’s important to keep that timeframe in mind, and talk with your doctor to make a plan based on your current age and health status. This shift can mean discussing treatment before you even have a diagnosis. If you know that it wouldn’t make sense to treat it if positive, it’s not worth having the test.
