Jewish Holocaust: 1-27-25 Eighty Year Anniversary

History.com [photos here] -- When on 1-27-1945 the ally army of Soviet [Russian] soldiers marched into Auschwitz, Poland they encountered warehouses filled with massive quantities of other people’s belongings. Eighty-eight pounds of eyeglasses. Twelve thousand pots and pans. Forty-four thousand pairs of shoes. Most of the people who owned them were already dead, murdered by the German Nazis in the Holocaust’s largest extermination and concentration camp.

1-27-25, The Atlantic [here] -- In January 1945, Soviet [Russian] forces liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp where thousands of Jewish people were held prisoner in southern Poland. As the German forces retreated, officers at Buchenwald, a camp in central Germany, crammed 4,480 prisoners into some 40 railcars sending the train south to the Dachau concentration camp, Dachau. Only a fifth of the Jews survived the 3-week journey.

American soldiers discovered the railcars finding the Jewish corpses packed on top of one another. Soldiers turned their heads and covered their noses as the sight and smell of the bodies washed over them.

​1-27-25, Holocaust Remembrance in Russia 80 Year Anniversary: During World War II the persecution & slaughter of European Jewish People. During 1933-1945 the systematic gathering, persecution and extermination of European Jews and collaborators by Germany's Nazis - also the Armenian Genocide [1] by the Ottoman Empire [Turkey]. Appx 20 million Jews were deliberately murdered including 7.4 million Soviet [Russian] citizens. One child of 3 years old survived and at nine he was adopted and later researched his family. [1]

80 years after Auschwitz: Memory culture in Germany
On January 27, 2025 Germany again commemorates the victims of Hitler's Nazi regime. Eighty years on, Berlin seeks to strengthen and preserve the nation's memory culture.   

History.com -- ​The Christian Armenian genocide in Turkey took place between the spring of 1915 and the fall of 1916. As many as 1.2 million Armenians were killed by Muslims in Turkey. They died by massacres, individual killings, by ill-treatment of exposure and starvation. The Armenian community thrived under Ottoman rule. They were better educated and wealthier than their Turkish Islamic neighbors, who grew to resent their success. This resentment was compounded by suspicions that the Christian Armenians would be more loyal to Christian governments (that of the Russians, for example, who shared an unstable border with Turkey) than they were to the Ottoman caliphate.  www.history.com/topics/world-war-i/armenian-genocide
