 11-12-24, Republican General Dwight Eisenhower [1954-1961] was the USA's 34th president. Critics scorned him as a "do-nothing" President. Although there was trouble in Indochina in 1954, he did not lead the country into war. He negotiated an armistice in the Korean War only six months after taking office. Peace prevailed even if at times Cold War tensions were high. He did not adopt policies that jeopardized the strong economic growth during the 1950s and made decisions that stimulated the economy, such as supporting the construction of the Interstate Highway System. He had strong faith in God becaming the first president to be baptized into the Presbyterian Church while in office. In 1954 he signed a bill adding 'Under God' to the USA Pledge of Allegiance. He once said he believed the USA was becoming too secular.
