 6-11-22, Barnes Commentary explains Matthew 11:28-30: The Lord Jesus said, "All ye that labor and are heavy laden come to Me." Perhaps here the Savior primarily is referring to the Jews, who groaned under the weight of the ceremonial laws and the traditions of the elders, Acts 15:10. He tells them that by coming to Him they would be freed from these burdensome rites and ceremonies as He is the 'Passover Lamb' as written in the Old Testament 2 Chronicles 35:11; 1 Corinthians 5:7. He was chiefly addressing the poor, lost sinner: the man "burdened" with a consciousness of his transgressions, trembling at the consequences and danger seeking deliverance; for such He is the Relief. Christ tells them to come to Him for salvation: repent of sins, believe in Him, trust Him only. Doing this, He will give them "rest" from their guilty conscience, terrors of the law and from the fears of eternal punishment.
