2-28-17, Smithsonian -- Studies show that 84-90 percent of all USA wildfires are  intentionally caused by humans or by human activity. Other factors that affect fire seasonality: Decades of fire suppression — not letting forests burn naturally — cause timber, grass and brush to accumulate. Where most fires were once started by lightning, they are now largely started by people. Roughly half of all wildfires in Utah are human caused — in 2020, 4 out of 5 wildfires were triggered by people that burned over 100,000 acres. As of June 10, 2024 California wildfires total  1,769; they have burned a cumulative 41,926 acres.

Year-to-date, the number of acres burned is above average. 
So far the wildfires have destroyed six structures.

CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES
6-17-24, Two new wildfires erupted in Northern California, including one called the Sites Fire in Colusa County, about 60 miles north of Sacramento; fanned by 20 mph wind gusts overnight the fire quickly spread to 10,000 acres triggering numerous evacuations. The Aero Fire in Calaveras County, in the Sierra foothills about 40 miles east of Stockton threatens 3,700 structures.

5-28-19, ISLAMIC MAGAZINE 'INSPIRE' has  tutorial in a 2012 issue of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's highlighted the damage caused by various wildfires and instructed jihadists on picking optimum weather conditions for arson. They long promoted the use of arson and wildfires called 'FIRE JIHAD' as a cheap terror tactic requiring little skill, but inflicting immense fear and harm. ISIS claimed they're behind a series of wildfires in Iraq and Syria [AND THE USA??]. In their official weekly newsletter, al-Naba, they vowed the blazes are “just the beginning.” They emphasized the economic impact of the fires, noting “many agricultural lands have been destroyed” and “tons of crops,” including wheat and barley went up in flames. ​More here
