Global tech outage hits airlines, banks, health care and public transit [here]
7-19-24, USAToday -- On Friday 7-19-24 in the USA and around the world a major technology outage grounded airline flights, hampered public transit systems and disrupted operations at banks and hospitals. Washington, D.C. transit went down; but trains and buses were running. In New York City buses and trains were unaffected; but "some MTA customer information systems were offline.

Worldwide reports of Digital Outages: London's Stock Exchange disrupted, major train delays in the U.K., British broadcaster Sky News went off air, medical facilities in Europe and the U.S. were forced to cancel some services. Disruptions at airports in Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong and India. Dubai Intl Airport reported that the global system outage that affected some airlines promptly switched to an alternate IT system allowing normal check-in operations to swiftly resume.

Russia Reports that the West's Sanctions Helped It Avoid Global Microsoft Outage
7-19-24, MoscowTimes -- On Friday, 7-19-24 Russia’s Digital Communications Ministry said Moscow’s measures against Western sanctions apparently shielded the nation from the rest of the world's digital disarray. How a software update from cyber firm CrowdStrike caused worldwide IT outages [here]
7-19-24, CNBC -- A fault with an update issued by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike led to a cascade effect among global IT systems Friday, 7-19-24. At the heart of the issue is Texas-based cybersecurity vendor CrowdStrike experienced a major disruption. The service is used by many of the world’s Fortune 500 companies, including major global banks, health-care and energy companies. Reportedly the current issue — a common problem among PCs, for example if a machine overheats — was the result of an update from CrowdStrike concerning its Falcon product designed to stop cyber breaches using cloud technology — it is at the heart of the firm’s focus on endpoints. CrowdStrike said Friday it is in the process of rolling back the update globally.
