2-5-23, After a wicked magistrate wrongfully whipped & jailed Paul & Silas, he wanted to quietly release them - Paul refused. Although willing to suffer for the cause of Christ; Paul refused to depart under the charge of having deserved the punishment. He, therefore, as a representative of Christ, required to be dismissed in a lawful & honorable manner. He and Silas were jailed because they saved a girl who had an evil spirit & was providing money for the wicked. The good news was that God sent an earthquake releasing them; and the jailer & his family became believers in Christ!
