9-27-23, Solomon built a grand temple for the Lord, fulfilling the commission given to him by God Himself showing the king’s great attention to both construction projects God's Temple and his own personal palace. He truly was dedicated to building a sanctuary worthy of the Lord; however, we ask whether this was the foremost goal in Solomon’s life?
In 1 Kings 6:1, 7:1 the passage occurs at the midpoint of the account of the temple’s construction reporting how Solomon built the temple and its furnishings when the author pauses to tell us about the construction of Solomon’s own home palace; some troubling details stand out: 1. The king took 7 years to complete God’s temple in Jerusalem 2. He spent 13 years building his person home’s palace 3. For all Solomon’s devotion to the work of the Lord's temple building, apparently he was more concerned with the details and size of his palace than with the sanctuary where God would be worshiped and the Ark of the Covenant would be kept instead of in a tent where the Lord gave great detailed instruction of its design, size, fabrics and decorations. 1 Kings 6:1-38, 7:1; 2 Samuel 5:11, 7:1-3; 1 Chronicles 22:6–10; 2 Chronicles 3:1-51 Comments are closed.
