Syria says Israeli helicopters strike targets in Southern Syria
5-1-20, Devdiscourse.com -- Today, May 1, 2020 in Israel, Syrian state media reported that Israeli helicopters fired several rockets from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on targets inside southern Syria in what Western intelligence sources have described as an increase in strikes against Iranian-backed militias this year. According to state media bases and convoys run by Lebanon's Iranian-backed Islamic terror group Hezbollah, the attacks caused only material damage. [..] Israel says Iran's military presence in Syria, where its militias are fighting alongside Syrian President Bashar al Assad's forces, is a strategic threat and claims that Tehran seeks a permanent presence along its northern borders.
2-28-20, Haaretz -- Syria's official news agency SANA reported that recently Israeli struck Syrian military positions in the Quneitra province in the Golan Heights wounding three Syrian soldiers. There was no immediate comment from Israel.
However, in a rare acknowledgment of operations in neighboring Syria, Israel said that its warplanes struck Islamic Jihad targets south of Damascus, in addition to sites in the Gaza Strip. The strike came after Islamic Jihad fired a barrage of more than 20 rockets into southern Israel in response to the death of one of its operatives, who was shot by Israeli forces after they said he was laying an explosive charge near the Gaza border fence.
Early in February 2020 SANA reported that Syrian air defense systems were activated following a strike near the Damascus Airport that came from the Golan Heights. The Al-Hadath news channel reported that seven militants were killed in the attack targeting Iranian-backed militias.
Syrian state TV reported that an Israeli drone fired a missile at a car in southern Syria, killing one person whom it named as a "civilian." Several other media outlets aligned with Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime said that the man was a local policeman. Local media reports have identified the man as Imad Tawil, a senior Islamic terror group - Hezbollah - official aiding Iran's efforts to secure a foothold on the Golan Heights.
