June 22, 2012, The US BLM government agency alleged the Hammonds set the range fires to reduce the growth of invasive juniper trees and sagebrush and to accelerate the production of rangeland grasses for cattle feed. Ranchers across southeastern Oregon have often complained about the time needed by BLM for environmental studies before it attacks invasive weeds and juniper, and about limits on the agency's use of herbicides. Weeds often provide little nutrition to cattle, while juniper sucks moisture from already-parched desert soils. More here
Robert Finicum's family sues U.S. over death in Oregon standoff
1-26-18, Family of Arizona rancher killed in Oregon standoff sues U.S. police & FBI. Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, an Arizona rancher who was killed in what was called a 'traffic stop' One of the most damning bits of information regarding the indefensible decision by authorities to set up the ambush in which LaVoy Finicum was killed is found on page 33 of the complaint. It points out that at the time of the so-called “traffic stop”: "There was still no arrest warrant, sworn affidavit or probable cause statement, criminal complaint or indictment against LaVoy Finicum, or any of the passengers in these vehicles." In the 2016 trial members of both the FBI and Oregon State Police testified that resulted in the acquittal of Ammon Bundy and six other defendants that they could not identify specific legal reasons for the stop.
