Excerpts: Third Installment, Richard Coombes BookInstallment #3, The future Babylon in the Old Testament The city of Babylon is the most mentioned of Gentile cities in the Bible; it is directly mentioned 286 times [KJV]. Only Jerusalem has greater mention. Two of the major prophets, Isaiah and Jeremiah record what God told them about the future Babylon; this future city is separate and distinct from the Babylon of their day. Isaiah and Jeremiah account for more than eighty direct references to the future city/state/nation; sixty-four are found in two chapters of Jeremiah 50 & 51 [1]. Isaiah accounts for twenty four in Isaiah 13-14, 18, 47. The Apostle John also has information describing the modern day Babylon in the Book of Revelation 17-18. For us today, it's difficult to fathom that 2500 years ago society, nation divisions and control was organized differently. The city was the dominant feature in the way society organized; it was the capital of an 'empire' and seldom did it contain cities of rival size or power. Today nations in general have several if not many cities. The Future Babylon Prophecies of Isaiah & Jeremiah Have been Misunderstood and Misapplied Many Bible experts have concluded that many Isaiah & Jeremiah prophecies have already occurred; and some have. Babylon becoming a desert ... 'where desert animals live and no man resides'[2]. In reality, ancient Babylon ... the city... has been deserted for nearly 1000 years. It did NOT occur in the manner described in the future prophecies. The old national empire of Babylon has remained inhabited by man. Also, the demise of ancient Babylon was a slow process dissolving into nothingness. The book of Revelation 18:10, it says Babylon's demise took place in one hour. Other Incorrect Concepts
