R. A. Coombes Book Summary: Installment #7Installment #7 Primary Data From Bible's New Testament To understand the Babylon connection we need to look at the book of Revelation; the Apostle John under the direction of almighty God penned it. Interesting that this apostle was the only one who wasn't martyred and died a natural death. Richard explains that the word 'Revelation' actually is a Greek word 'apocalypsis' and used in it's verb form frequently throughout the New Testament. In the OT book of Daniel the verb form is found referring to the uncovering of secrets and interpreting dreams. [1] Thayer's lexicon sums it up best: 'to uncover, lay open what has been veiled or covered up.' Whose 'cover-up' is it? Is God covering up something? Or ... was God covering up something? The answer is, 'yes' ... He was and still is covering up something. There is much we don't know; we have been told what is relevant and necessary for us to know and we'll find out more later. Rev 14:1-7 is discussed, apparently Richard held the popular view about the AC and other aspects of end time events. Revelation 17 [1] begins with a conversation between John and seven angels. The angels begins explaining about Babylon [Greek word 'Megala']. Babylon is symbolically referred to in the feminine, furthermore the gender is delineated as being a prostitute; metaphorically symbolizing the spiritual nature of this city/state/nation. Many past/current Biblical scholars interpret Chapter 17 as not being a city/state/nation per se, but rather the Roman Catholic Church with Rome being the city. Rome had persecuted and martyred untold numbers of Christians and Jews, was a world empire and had/has many 'demon-gods' borrowed mostly from Babylon. But, we will see that the characteristics just do not apply to Rome or Iraq as some speculate. World Politics The 'woman'sitting on many waters means having authority over and is a reference to people and crowds who immigrated from around the world; there has never been the likes of this melting pot in the history of the world. Rev 17:1 Angels said, "I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:" Rev 17:15 And he saith unto me, "The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues." Question: What nation fits these descriptions? Who in the world has a statue in its largest city's harbor welcoming immigrants to its country? There's only one nation: the USA Statue of Liberty [2] Comparisons between the 'harlot' and the Statue of Liberty [SoL] in New York harbor in Rev 17:15 are more than just irony or coincidence. Marvin Trachtenberg's book, on pag 79 describes how the tablets of the statue resemble the tablets of Moses and Ten Commandments he says: "a seer and prophetess ... her tablet bears not so much a resemblance as an implicit commandment -- "SEEK LIBERTY" - Keep in mind that 'Liberty' is another name of Ishtar the goddess of Babylon [the SoL website says the name 'Liberty' is Roman]. Also, she sits on 7 heads/mountains or continents: the SoL has a crown with seven spikes/horns representing the seven continents and faces southeast, a city in Long Island NY named 'Babylon' [3] Links between the Woman and the name 'Babylon' Rev 17:5 And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. Rev 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth. The word 'mystery' shouldn't be taken as something that cannot be known; it's simply not readily understandable. Also, 'Babylon the Great' ... in the Greek, Babylon is 'megala' - definition: super, giant, also carries idea of violent power or super power, Mother of harlots = idolatry siphoning off worship from our Creator God and Abominations = moral pollution [stench]. Rev 17:9 And here [is] the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. [1] Rev 17: http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Rev&c=17&v=1&t=KJV#top
