BREAKING: Atlanda Georgia USA I-85 bridge collapses; interstate closed for ‘foreseeable future’
UPDATE: 3-31-17 THREE IN CUSTODY for bridge fire
3-31-17, Georgia State investigators arrested three people: Basil Eleby, Sophia Bruner, charged with criminal trespass and Barry Thomas. They have several charges against them authorities believe the three may be homeless and used materials being stored under the bridge conduit. More here and Fox 5 -- The Georgia Dept of Transportation said it will take at least several months to repair Interstate 85, where an intense fire caused a section of the elevated northbound lanes to collapse during the Thursday evening rush hour.
3-30-17, Georgia Dept of Transportation inspectors are on the scene. The construction company that built the bridge has been contacted to determine how long it will take to repair. The cause of the fire is unknown but “the speculation I’ve heard is that there are some PVC products that caught fire.” Surprising how quickly it was announced NOT terrorism even though they don't know what started the fire. At first they thought it was a car burning, but later said it could have been something else. GDOT spokeswoman Natalie Dale said the interstate will be closed in both directions “for the foreseeable future."
Hhundreds or thousands of companies who can’t get their employees to work on time will certainly be affected. Also the public sector will also take a blow as tens of thousands of government workers will be affected. The short-term potential losses are substantial. More here
