World’s Biggest Pork Producer 'Smithfield' Warns of Possible Bacon Shortage
10-9-19, Bloomberg -- According to Smithfield Foods Inc., the world’s biggest pork producer, the U.S. could see tight supplies of bacon, shortages of pork bellies and ham next year as China's pig-killing disease ripples through the global market. Although the hog crisis hasn’t had much impact on the U.S. market yet, that could change. The Asian nation is forced to increase imports, said Arnold Silver, director of raw materials procurement at Smithfield, which is owned by Hong Kong-listed WH Group Ltd. "The Chinese are insatiable in their appetite for pork. Smithfield will prioritize supplying its long-held U.S. customer base before directing meat for export to China."
US Reviewing Options For Pulling Nuclear Bombs Out Of Turkey
10-14-19, TheDrive -- The United States has had those nuclear weapons stored at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey since the 1960s. There are between 150 and 200 total B61s deployed between Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey. Turkey is the only host country that is not part of the alliance's nuclear sharing agreement, which gives the other countries involved access to these weapons, in close coordination with the United States, during a crisis. In a crisis, there are no aircraft actually based in Turkey that could deliver the weapons.
