President Reagan's Plan for Missile Defense; Dubbed "Star Wars"
On March 23, 1983, President Reagan proposed the creation of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), an ambitious project that would construct a space-based anti-missile system.
3-23-17, Politico -- Although never developed or deployed, the SDI effort served as a precursor for some of the anti-ballistic missile systems Pres Trump advocates today. On Jan. 1, 2017, North Korea announced it was preparing to test an ICBM which, if deployed and weaponized, could strike the North American continent with a nuclear bomb. The Missile Defense mission is to develop, test and prepare for deployment of a missile defense system.
