5-17-17, USAToday -- The Justice Dept Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein [Former US Attorney from Maryland] said, "I determined that it is on the public interest for me to exercise my authority and appoint a special counsel to assume responsibility for this matter [Russia collusion]. My decision is not a finding that crimes have been committed or that any prosecution is warranted." Former FBI director Robert Mueller chosen to head a special counsel overseeing the Russia investigation. Rosenstein was key in the firing of James Comey. More here
In appointing Mueller, Rod flouted regulations requiring that he specify the crimes that supposedly necessitated the appointment of a special counsel. He promised Democrats that Mueller would have carte blanche — no limits and no supervision from his nominal supervisor, Rosenstein. More here
