Nov 25, 2017 · Before we consider all men guilty of sexual harassment or abuse  ... let's consider the possibility he’s innocent [like Roy Moore]. The percentage of false rape cases range between 2 to 8 percent [some studies show ten percent]. When women falsely declare she has been sexually harassed or raped; it may be caused by her:

• cries for attention and sympathy
• attempts to cover up embarrassing behavior, pregnancy and various other sexual encounters
• vendetta against a man; 'a woman scorned ....'
• political witch hunt

The United States legal system is supposed to operate on the theory that the accused is innocent until proven guilty. But Stuart Taylor argues that, when it comes to sexual assault allegations, college campuses are turning the American justice system on its ear and declaring young men guilty based on a woman’s accusation alone. Lies against innocent men often have tragic results; even without a wrongful conviction, the consequences of a false accusation can be devastating for the man —from a terrifying middle-of-the-night arrest to lengthy pretrial detention or the destruction of a person’s home, career and reputation; five notable cases follow:

1. the 2009 Hofstra University case in which a female student’s claim of gang rape in a men’s room fell apart after a cellphone video taken by one of the accused men showed consensual group sex), or vendettas against former partner
2. in 2009, New Yorker William McCaffrey was released after serving four years of a 20-year prison sentence for a rape his friend Biurny Peguero had made up to explain her injuries from a fight with several women.
3. in 2012 a Michigan man, James Grissom, was freed after nearly 10 years in prison when the woman who accused him, Sara Ylen, was caught making another false allegation (and faking cancer to bilk money from insurance companies and sympathetic donors).
4. in 2012 a former California high school football star, Brian Banks spent five years in prison for raping his classmate Wanetta Gibson - he was exonerated after Gibson contacted him to apologize and admitted making up the attack.
5. in 2006 the Duke lacrosse rape scandal: the team had a stripper at a party, she accused three of the boys of raping her … after a lengthy outrageous and slanderous attack on the boys it was determined that  Crystal Magnum, an African-American, accused white Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and David Evans of gang-raping and beating her during the party. MAY 16, 2014 -- The wrongful prosecution case against three innocent Duke University boys exposed flaws in the Durham justice system ending corrupt, disgraced district attorney Mike Nifong's legal career. Under terms of the settlement, the three players – Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and Dave Evans – will receive no money however, at their request, the city will make a $50,000 grant to the N.C. Innocence Inquiry Commission. Nifong must pay the commission $1,000, settling the case against him. More here
