Rome Emperor Claudius in 278 AD Banned Marriage
2-14-17, History behind this holiday honoring love. In Rome there was a wicked emperor Claudias who persecuted the church prohibiting young people from marrying. This was based on his hypothesis that unmarried men were better soldiers than married soldiers.
Enter Father Valentine … he is honored on a day dedicated to love because he defied Claudius secretly marrying young lovers. However, on February 14, 278 AD Father Valentine was prosecuted for this deed of love. He was beaten, stoned and finally executed by beheading. More here
Almighty God has given mankind the wonderful gift of human love and sexuality that is blessed by God in marriage. However, don't be surprised if after being married awhile the 'gushing' love that you have for someone changes to something less "gushing."
