Michigan: Senior Citizens Blocked From Teaching Children the True Meaning of Christmas = Jesus' Birth
Michigan: Senior Citizen Ladies, Wilma & Joan Blocked from Explaining the True Meaning of Christmas to Visiting Children, Lawyers Demand Apology
4-4-19, * -- In December 2018, students from the Child Development Center and Preschool in Michigan visited the assisted living residents of Kalkaska Senior Living Center. Two residents were reading Christmas-themed stories to the children. When Wilma Wells and Joan Wilson were reading and explaining why people celebrate Christmas, an unnamed teacher abruptly told women to stop and ended the visit. Recently the First Liberty Legal Institute sent a letter to the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center on on behalf of Ms Wells and Ms Wilson saying:
“Here, the CDCP teacher’s actions constitute unlawful discrimination and violate the Free Exercise and Free Speech Clauses of the First Amendment to the Constitution.”
The center was called to “remedy these constitutional violations by providing “assurance that all Kalkaska Memorial Health Center employees will abide by the Constitution and federal law” as well as apologize to Ms Wilson and Ms Wells.”
This is not the first time that “A Charlie Brown Christmas” has been at the center of a church-and-state dispute. In December 2016, a judge ordered that a Texas school district restore "A Charlie Brown Christmas" themed display after administrators took it down because it featured a Bible verse, Luke 2:9-11. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in 2016 said about the injunction: "Religious discrimination toward Christians has become a holiday tradition of sorts among certain groups."
