President Trump Demands Lower OPEC Prices

"We protect the countries of the Middle East, they would not be safe for very long without us, and yet they continue to push for higher and higher oil prices! We will remember. The OPEC monopoly must get prices down now!"

President Trump clearly nudging to Opec members, such as Saudi Arabia, to agree a production boost when they meet this weekend. Brent Crude is currently trading near to $80 per barrel, close to its highest level since November 2014.

Oil prices have been climbing sharply since Opec agreed a historic deal to curb production in late 2016. That output freeze has helped to remove over-capacity from the market, meaning producers benefit from higher prices. More here from Guardian
