Series: Angels, Cherubims, Seraphims  Dec 11, 2016 - Angels are mentioned at least 108 times in the Old Testament and 165 times in the New Testament. Some confusion about angels, cherubim and seraphim. Apparently the main difference is their appearance: cherubim have four faces and four wings, while seraphim have six wings and do angels even have wings? Angels make proclamations, are guardians also punish sin as with the Assyrian army: In 2 Kings 19:35-37 an angel of the Lord went forth and annihilated the Assyrian army. Seraphim are in the Bible in Isaiah 6:1-4: "In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke." and Isaiah 6:2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.  Cherubim (plural) - We first hear of them in the Garden of Eden: Genesis 3:24 "God drove out the man; placing at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." They appear in 50+ verses most as art and sculpture. In Ezekiel 10:4 - They had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, the second face was the face of a man, the third the face of a lion and the fourth the face of an eagle.   On the Ark of the Covenant: Exodus 25:20, 37:9; 1 Kings 8:7
"Cherubims stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be." It doesn't say how many faces or the number of wings. Comments are closed.
