Are You King?
3-27-22, Barnes Commentary reports on John 18:37 where Pilate questions the Lord Jesus in one of His six mock trials that involved Jewish envy, political pandering, evil and pure cowardice. There was no evidence that Jesus was guilty of any violation of law – He gave up His life they didn’t ‘take it!’ Pilate said: “Art thou a king then?” Dost thou admit the charge in any sense, or dost thou lay claim to a kingdom of any kind? The Lord Jesus said: “Thou sayest ...” - This is a form of expression denoting affirmation; equivalent to “yes.” He does not deny it. [John 3:11-12] We see here the importance which Jesus attached to truth; it was His sole business in coming into the world to die and arise from death as a sacrifice for all repenting sinners.
