God IS Love; Also Consuming FIRE!“God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us." 1 John 4:7-10 [1] "For our God is a consuming fire. Even a jealous God." Hebrews 12:29 Deuteronomy 4:24; 9:3 [2] 4-26-17, Pastor Mike Taylor [excerpted*] -- Some people only believe that God is love - not that He demands obedience and is just and jealous. We must not emphasize one of almighty God's attributes at the expense of others. If we overlook the fact that God is just as well as loving; His mercy can cause us to falsely believe it's a justification for deliberate sin. Oh He'll forgive me! God's mercy and justice cannot be separated from all that He is. Both are harmoniously applied to each situation and person He judges. Yes “God is love” that's a fact, but not a definition of God's essential nature. God loved us so much, that He sent His only Son, to die in our place. Fortunately for mankind, God is a multidimensional; holy and immutable, He always acts as God, and because He is a whole and perfect, He never suspends one of His attributes to exercise another. God said as recorded in Jeremiah: "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord which exercise loving kindness, judgment and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight.” Jeremiah 9:23-24 Our soon coming King is not just some grandfatherly type living in the sky Who is nothing but love, love, love. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. We don't come to God because we love God; we come to Him because we love ourselves fearing punishment for our sin. Love for Him comes later when we realize what He has done for us. God is patient and long suffering; but He is also righteous, just and a jealous God. Almighty God when He has finally run out of patience, will utterly destroy those who in rebellion against Him. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom ...” [3] The final book of your Bible; Revelation speaks of the wrath of God and because He's not willing any should perish, He gives us a freewill choice of heaven or hell. The ultimate fate of all who refuse the free offer of grace and mercy through our Lord Jesus Christ is eternal separation from almighty God. He doesn't send anybody to hell ... you do. Our God is a loving, but a righteous consuming FIRE. May we possess a Godly fear and reverence and not reject so great a salvation only available through our Lord Jesus Christ.
