Understanding "The Day of the Lord"
1 Thessalonians 5:2,4; Zechariah 14:9; Isaiah 13:6; Joel 2:1, 11
6-19-17, Chuck Steele [Excerpted*] -- The phrase “day of the Lord” usually identifies events that take place at the end of history. One key to understanding these phrases is to note that they always identify a span of time during which God personally intervenes in history, directly or indirectly, to accomplish some specific aspect of His plan. To better understand God’s timing regarding certain events which are about to take place the following verses enlighten us:
There's unmistakable clarity as to who the ‘day of the Lord’ is intended. Its purpose is to ‘destroy sinners’ and it's ‘the time of the heathen.’ The day of the Lord will be accompanied by God's wrath and fierce anger. That leaves out all born again believers who have repented of our sins asking Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. We have been cleansed and have received the gift of eternal life with Him.
Since we understand that the Rapture (or the “catching away of the believers”) is what ushers in the terrible ‘day of the Lord,’ it’s time to make our preparations for its coming. If you don't know the Messiah Jesus Christ ... earnestly pray for forgiveness turning your life over to Him. You will be born again. “Jesus said, marvel not that I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3,7
Revelation 16:15 “Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”
Matthew 24:43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies[a] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
