Italy says almost 200 deaths [mostly elderly frail patients just left to die] from coronavirus in 24 hours 3-11-20, ITALY (WTVO) — According to NBC News, on March 11, 2020 Italy’s Civil Protection Agency said that almost 200 people died from the coronavirus in 24 hours. Representing the highest increase in deaths recorded anywhere in the world since the emergence of the virus in China in Sept 2019. Reportedly an Italian medical college has issued guidelines to doctors and medical professionals telling them to just let elderly patients die. [More here from LifeNews] The Atlantic reports: Doctors and nurses are advised to take a patient’s overall state of health into account. Those who have preexisting health issues, are too old to have a high likelihood of recovery, or who have too low a number of “life-years” left even if they should survive, will be left to die. This sounds cruel, but the alternative, the document argues, is no better. “In case of a total saturation of resources, maintaining the criterion of ‘first come, first served’ would amount to a decision to exclude late-arriving patients from access to intensive care.” "Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent." Psalm 71:9-10 | Coronavirus: Italy doctors 'forced to prioritise ICU care for patients with best ch… 3-11-20, Amid a surge of corona cases, Italy's healthcare system is at breaking point, with medical staff describing chaotic conditions in health care centers. Those patients who do not survive Coronavirus depends on age and by health conditions. Doctor, Roberto Cosentini reported: "If a person between 80 and 95 has severe respiratory failure, you probably won't proceed. If he has multi-organ failure of more than three vital organs, it means he has a one hundred per cent mortality rate. This is also a terrible sentence. But unfortunately, it is true. We are not in a position to tempt what are called miracles. It is a reality." Patients with serious preexisting health conditions are significantly more likely to die. “What might be a relatively short treatment course in healthier people could be longer and more resource-consuming in the case of older or more fragile patients.” These guidelines also apply to patients who require intensive care for other than the coronavirus, because they too make demands on the same scarce medical resources. “These criteria apply to all patients in intensive care, not just those infected with CoVid-19.” Psalm 71:9, 90:10 [Note: When my husband passed to Jesus - he was on hospice and when he had trouble breathing they gave him drugs to make him comfortable with an easy 'exit.' I hope they are doing that for these elderly and fragile patients. The article doesn't say that I could find.--Annette] |
