Scripture for Today: When Lights Go Out

We Must Be Prepared and Have No Fear

10-20-17,  It was Friday night, I was writing at my computer and my wife, Linda was reading an e-book on her tablet. There we were with no electricity, no lights, no internet and no television; no fear.  We had prepared for this:

1. I got my flashlight that doubles as a cell phone power source
2. plugged in my phone
3. turned on the mobile hotspot so we could maintain internet connection
4. got out our two battery-operated camping lanterns

For the next hour, rain poured from the sky as if God had picked up the Atlantic Ocean and was dumping it on us. Our lanterns gave enough light to make our space cozy as Linda read her ebook and I continued to work on my laptop that had enough charge for me to finish the work I was doing. 

Although the rest of the house was dark, and the temperature grew warmer because the air conditioner was off, we didn’t have a crisis because during the previous weekend, we had prepared for this. We checked the batteries in those emergency lamps and charged my mobile power back-up. We didn’t panic and we weren't fearful. 

The same can be true when life itself comes to an end; no fear. Jesus said we must be born again: John 3:7

Here are six encouraging scriptures confirming that we have no fear of death if we are born again believers in Christ:

1. John 11:25-26 Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die."
2. 2 Corinthians 5:8 "Be of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord."
3. Revelation 20:6 "Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years."
4. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 "The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first."
5. Philippians 1:21 “to live is Christ and to die is gain.” 
6. Isaiah 25:8 "God will swallow up death for all time, And the Lord GOD will wipe tears away from all faces, And He will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth;"

These don’t sound like people who are afraid of death; God has spoken ... no death to believers in Him. Repent and live!
