10-17-19, VP Mike Pence, Sec State Mike Pompeo secure cease-fire agreement in Syria announced agreement between Turkey, Syria and Kurdish militias. The two 'Mikes' met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara Turkey.
The cease fire deal is for 120-hours during allowing the Kurdish-led forces to pull back from the roughly 20-mile-wide safe zone on the Turkish-Syrian border. All Turkish military operations under the recent offensive known as Operation Peace Spring will pause. The operation will come to an end entirely upon the completion of the Kurdish withdrawal. President Trump declared in a tweet:
"This is a great day for civilization; I am proud of the United States for sticking by me in following a necessary, but somewhat unconventional, path. People have been trying to make this 'Deal' for many years. Millions of lives will be saved. Congratulations to ALL!"
On 10-15-19, President Trump said during the Italian leader's visit: "The Kurds are much safer right now, but the Kurds know how to fight. They’re not angels, they’re not angels, but they fought with us.” More here from Washington Times
