The appeals judges pointed out that “judges must give deference to military leaders when it comes to policy decisions about standards for service.” Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’ review proposed a modified, but official policy to ban those with gender dysphoria diagnoses from serving in the military. Those diagnosed with gender dysphoria experience dangerous side effects such as suicide, anxiety, depression and drug addiction. Also their surgeries and therapies too often were not successful in alleviating these side effects. The Supreme court is due to consider whether to hear three separate government appeals at its private conference on Jan. 11, 2019 as other federal courts issued injunctions against the policy, which applied nationwide.
