 Thorner: Foolish Lawmakers Efforts to Eiminate Electoral College1-11-19, * -- On Jan 3, 2019 at the Democrat controlled 116th Congress, the vocal critic of Pres Trump, Rep. Steve Cohen, (D-Tenn.) introduced a bill aiming to eliminate the USA Electoral College [1] replacing it with a popular vote for electing a president and vice president. However, in 2016 he also filed an amendment [2] with the same goal that has already been introduced in most every state. Currently there is a National Popular Vote (NPV) [3] scheme endorsed by many that is a destructive scheme seeking to evade the 12th Amendment to the US Constitution. It’s goal is to elect the President where only the inhabitants of major metropolitan areas would unfairly end up electing the President. [..snip] In California, supposedly Mrs Clinton received 4.3 million more votes than Donald Trump, but how many of these votes were cast by illegal aliens? We'll never know; reportedly Mrs Clinton received 8,753,788 votes in California. [See map: nearly all what’s called the ‘fly over’ states would be excluded from the fair process of all Americans choosing the nation’s leader if only majority vote counted.] The amendment in the US House of Representatives is unlikely to pass since it would require a two-thirds vote in both chambers of Congress and then must be ratified by three-fourths of the states.
