In 1776, a short time after the Declaration of Independence was adopted, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin were assigned to design an official seal for the United States of America. Their proposed motto was Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God. America owes its existence to centuries of Christian political philosophy. Our nation provided a model for liberty copied by nations the world over and it's universities were founded on Christ.
Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Oxford—Once Christian
8-7-18, USA universities founded and dedicated to helping Christians defend their faith and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Probably no segment of American society has turned out a greater number of illustrious graduates than New England’s Ivy League.
Most of the colleges in the United States that started over 300 years ago were originally Bible-proclaiming schools. Dartmouth in New Hampshire, Harvard in Massachusetts, Yale in Connecticut (originally Puritan) and Princeton in New Jersey (originally Presbyterian) once had rich Christian histories.
Harvard was named after a Christian minister. Yale was started by clergymen, and Princeton’s first year of class was taught by Reverend Jonathan Dickinson. Princeton’s crest still says “Dei sub numine viget,” which is Latin for “Under God she flourishes.”
